Meditation is the process of training your mind to focus and redirect your thoughts. It has many physical and mental benefits. It reduces stress, improves concentration and memory, controls anxiety, and enhances self awareness. I have been meditating since the 1970’s. I started because I was going through a stressful time in my life. I am naturally a high strung individual and meditation has helped me to center, focus and relax. During these stressful times, when we sometimes have more time in our hands than we want, it may be the perfect time to learn a meditation technique. To start your meditation practice, sit in a comfortable chair, relax your body by taking 3 deep breaths and then relaxing your body by paying attention to each part of your body and purposefully relax it starting at your feet and ending at your head. Then repeat in your mind a positive word, like peace. This is what we call your point of concentration. Your mind will wonder and you will find yourself thinking of other things. That is normal. As you find yourself thinking of other things, gently bring your attention back to your point of concentration. Start doing this for 10 minutes a day, and then increase it to 20 minutes. Don’t put a loud ringer to let you know time is up, but you can choose a soft music or have a clock in front of you that you can check by opening your eyes and if it is not time gently closing them back up to continue your practice of meditation. If you need help with this process call the office and make an appointment with me, and I’ll be happy to help you. It would only take 30 minutes of your time, and I would accept a love offering donation for my time. Mercedes
